Parks and green spaces play a vital role in creating a community where everyone can thrive—especially as we face the challenges of climate change. Parks aren’t just places to visit; they are crucial resources that promote environmental justice, create healthier neighborhoods, and serve as anchors of resilience and well-being.

In Monticello, we are committed to nurturing a natural world that supports not only the health of our environment but also the health and happiness of our residents. We believe every member of our community deserve access to clean air, water, and safe, green spaces.

Supporting a Thriving Environment for Generations to Come

By managing and caring for our parks, we are taking proactive steps to mitigate the impacts of climate change.  Our parks absorb carbon, reduce urban heat, improve air quality, and offer safe places for residents to gather and enjoy the outdoors.  As we expand and improve these spaces, we’re committed to implanting environmental resilience into each project.

Building an Environment of Resilience and Environmental Equity

As we work to create an inclusive and resilient community, our parks and recreation team is dedicated to advancing environmental equity and sustainability through thoughtful design and planning.  In our efforts to support a thriving natural ecosystem, we’re exploring innovative solutions like solar energy, bioswales, rain gardens, and permeable pavers in our park improvement plans. These sustainable practices not only enhance our parks but also contribute to cleaner air, improved water quality, and increased resilience to climate change, helping us build a better community for all.

This commitment to environmental sustainability isn’t just about preserving green spaces; it’s about creating a better place to LIVE, WORK, and PLAY.  Families can breathe easy knowing that our parks and natural areas are cared for with future generations in mind.  Businesses can be proud of their city’s commitment to sustainability, drawing more customers and tourists to a cleaner, healthier town.  And for those who love the outdoors, a place to reconnect with nature, and a symbol of a community that cares for its people and its planet.
